Mission Statement

Our focus and mission is individually to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ, and collectively, as a fellowship of believers, to worship God in Spirit and in Truth. We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God, and adhere to its teachings in all matters pertaining to life and faith.

We welcome you to join us where you may worship, “as it is written.”

Where to Find Us: We are conveniently located off Interstate 95 in Historic Fredericksburg City. (www.visitfred.com). From I-95 exit at 133A (US Hwy. Route 17, Business) toward Falmouth. At the intersection of US Hwy. Route 1 make a right and proceed across the Falmouth Bridge. At the first traffic light across the bridge turn right onto Hansen Avenue. At the next street, Woodford Street, turn right, and at the stop sign turn left onto Riverside Drive. Our building is on your left.

Visiting Our Worship: We hope you will plan to visit with us and join us in worship when in Fredericksburg. To acquaint you with our congregation, first and foremost, you can expect a warm and friendly greeting from our membership. Visitors are honored as special guests when with us, and you will be, too. Seating is not reserved, so please feel free to sit wherever you are comfortable.

Who We Are and What We Believe: We are a community of believers who acknowledge that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, and we accept Him as our personal Savior. Further, we follow the Biblical example of believer baptism (immersion) for the forgiveness of sins.

We are non-denominational, which means we have no church hierarchy or governing organization. Each church of Christ is an independent congregation although we are a part of the fellowship of Churches of Christ. We are Christians only and base our belief practices solely on the authority of the Bible.

Our congregational leadership consists of elders or shepherds who have spiritual oversight. We are served by deacons who facilitate the various ministries in our fellowship. Leadership

We seek to follow the church pattern found in the New Testament without the addition of human traditions, liturgy or creeds. Thus, we have no religious symbols in our building or creed recitation in our worship. We sincerely desire to follow the example found in Scripture with regard to our worship and make every effort to adhere to its simplicity. Visiting Our Worship

In who we are and what we do, our purpose is to bring glory to God. Our plea is to proclaim the

Gospel of Christ, and our work is to serve others in such a way to show Christ in our lives.

Morning announcements precede entering into the worship.  As a visitor you will not know those mentioned in the announcements or be familiar with the activities outlined, but we are family, and this is our way of keeping each other informed. Once worship has begun you may expect:

Singing : Hymn numbers are posted to the right of the pulpit and will also be announced by the song leader before each hymn is sung. We sing without instrumental accompaniment, as the early Christians did. Our singing is congregational, giving everyone opportunity to participate. Singing hymns is exampled to us in the New Testament and expresses the joy and praise in our hearts to God. ( Colossians 3:16)

Prayer: At various times during the worship, prayers will be offered. These are giving praises and thanksgiving to God for His blessings, and making requests for His comfort. It is a privilege to pray individually and collectively when we gather, and especially a joy to seek His help for those who are in need. (Philippians 4:6)

Lord’s Supper: We observe this Memorial Feast each Sunday, as set forth in the Bible. This is a reflective time in our worship and central to our faith because it commemorates Jesus’ death on the cross for our sins. (1 Corinthians 11:26) While participation is intended for believers in Christ, we do not exclude anyone from taking part. The bread and cup are passed among the congregation. Comments appropriate to this observance may be made by those who serve the communion as a way to help prepare our minds to partake. (1 Corinthians 11:23-29)

Offering: Since we are an independent body, the work of the Fredericksburg church is supported by cheerful giving from its members. As a visitor and our guest, you are not expected to make a donation, though you may participate if you wish. The collection trays are passed following the Lord’s Supper as a convenient time to do so, however, it is not part of the communion service. (1 Corinthians 16:2)

Sermon: This is a time of teaching from God’s word and exhorting the congregation to follow closer to Christ. The sermon usually is 25-30 minutes in length. Following the lesson, we will stand and sing a hymn of encouragement giving an opportunity for those who may have prayer requests or who desire to be baptized (immersed) into Christ to come forward. Please do not feel uncomfortable; you will not be pressured to respond in any way. (Acts 20:7)

Now that you know more about who we are, we sincerely hope you will join us in worship and Bible study. We look forward to meeting you!
